Having Cretan tea is a bit of a ritual for me. When the weather changes and the cold darker days arrive, I love making myself a jug of mountain tea. It makes our home smell beautiful. It opens my box of memories from being a child and having it on a cold day, to walking into traditional “kafenia” in Cretan villages and smelling the tea, the wood burning and the chestnuts roasting. It’s typical to offer it with some cheese and rusks and for me it’s like a sweet winter hug.
